Show Up Prepared

📜 Wednesday’s Quote of the Day 📜

“For by looking forward to whatever can happen as though it would happen, he will soften the attacks of all ills, which bring nothing strange to those who have been prepared beforehand as are expected them;

It is the unconcerned and those that expect nothing but good fortune upon whom they fall heavily.”

~ Seneca, On The Tranquility of the Mind (pg. 35)

When you look ahead of your schedule, pondering about the difficult week to come, don’t expect it to go easy for you. Because when you expect easiness, you won’t be prepared for the difficulty.

And not being prepared for the difficulty will lead to giving up A.K.A ‘falling heavily’ as Seneca said. Think about it this way: You’re climbing a mountain. And there’s two ways you perceived the climb. You either knew there would be twists and turns that would pose as obstacles or instead, you didn’t really think much of it and thought everything would be fine and go to plan.

If you encountered an obstacle from the first perspective, you’d know immediately that you signed up for it. You knew obstacles were coming but you also came prepared, ready to take them on. You knew the difficulty going in.

If you encountered an obstacle from the second perspective, you would second guess yourself and ask why you’re doing what you’re doing. You had no idea of how difficult the obstacles truly were and on the fly, would most likely give up in order to prepare yourself for the next time you attempt the climb.

Foresee the difficulty. Expecting any good fortune would only hinder you in ways that could have been prevented if you just showed up prepared for the hardship.
