Everyone is born into a different hand.

🃏 Everyone has different cards they need to play. Whether we like it or not, we don’t choose the cards; we do, however, choose what we decide to play.

Ryan Holiday, a well-known modern day Stoic and author, said the following about these types of cards:

♦️ Our poor hand shouldn’t indicate our failure to persevere; our abandonment of hope. Instead, we should work through these wrongs, work through our poor hand, and simply continue working.

It would be nice to just fold, but we can’t. That is not how life works. And folding never reveals any opportunity.

For the poker players, folding a bad hand from the start but discovering you secretly had a flush when the river was revealed is exactly what I mean. Folding in life is analogous to losing opportunity.

🎲 With the cards we’re given, we need to work hard to create our own outcome. We shouldn’t disgrace our hand but instead, work with it. You never know the opportunity that may came along in the future that will work well with your hand.
