Are You On The Right Path?

Are You On The Right Path?

“Why am I doing this? Why am I here?”

Both common thoughts we naturally think when we work those long, hard hours. Whether it be our business, our studies, responsibilities, etc… We tend to wonder these exact questions; however, so did the Stoics. Our quote of the week comes from Seneca’s Essay, Tranquility of the Mind:

📚 Quote of the Week 📚

“Confidence in yourself and the belief that you are on the right path, and have not been led astray by the many cross-tracks of those who are roaming in every direction, some of whom are wandering very near the path itself.”

Seneca, (Tranquility of the Mind, pg. 8)

🔓 Dealing with Obstacles in Confidence

When pursuing activities that are inherently difficult to persist through, that is an obstacle in itself; a mental battle, one might say. In order to persist through these mental battles, we have to confidence.

Confidence in knowing that we are doing what we’re supposed to be doing.

Confidence in knowing that we are doing the right thing.

Confidence in the path you are walking down.

Confidence in yourself and your actions.

Without that confidence, as Seneca said, you will be forced off of the path you wished to pursue, led astray, and be left wandering aimlessly for the rest of your life. This confidence helps you recognize what your goals are, and why you shouldn’t lose sight of them.

It takes hard work to gain that initial confidence in the first place. But without believing in what your destination/purpose is, how will you know where to go? When you face an obstacle right in the middle of your journey, what will you do?

Give up,

Or be confident that you are on the right path and the obstacle is only there as a hindrance rather than a dead-end?
